I-48: Approach to Adnexal Masses

Most ovarian masses are benign conditions such as non neaplastic cystic, but on the other hand , ovarian cancer, is the third most common gynecological malignancy which has the highest mortality rate , as a result of late diagnosis. As there are few clinical symptoms, most patients at the Abstracts of the 12th Royan International Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine 2 3 International Journal of Fertility & Sterility (IJFS), Vol 5, Suppl 1, Summer 2011 time of diagnosis have advanced disease (stage III or IV) with overall survival rate 20-30%, but if it is possible to detect the disease in early stages , this rate rises to 80% in stage 1. Therefore, efforts should be directed at developing methods of early diagnosis. In this field, image characterizations by US, CT and MRI have quite great help and classically is based on morphology vascularity and tissue characterizations. In this session, we would define the specific image characterizations of adnexal masses.
